Shore excursions from Split
Book a local English-speaking guide in Split for a personalised walking tour of this amazing Roman city.
Meet your local English-speaking guide and walk from your hotel or cruise ship terminal into the Roman palace of the Emperor Diocletian who built himself this huge, opulent palace to retire in, on a sunny bay on the Adriatic 1700 years ago. The palace was so large and so well-built that it eventually became a town in its own right, Split, with the emperor’s own mausoleum becoming the cathedral. See the Roman Temples of Venus and Jupiter, the Peristil which was the grand courtyard entrance to the palace, the vaulted cellars which were once the dungeons.
In 1979, this magnificent example of the late Roman architecture was included in the register of the UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage.
