    Description:

The Highlights of Hanoi, private city tour

Pick up from port by your private car and English-speaking local guide for your full day city tour of Vietnam’s capital. Hanoi is a charming and elegant city with tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and oriental temples. Visit the Temple of Literature, the only remnant of the original 11th century palace which was built by the new rulers of a Vietnam that had just got rid of its Chinese occupiers, and therefore a symbol of national identity.

Continue to the Hoa Lo Prison Museum where the former US presidential candidate John McCain was imprisoned for over 5 years.

Later visit the Museum of Ethnology where the costumes, utensils, handicrafts and musical instruments of Vietnam’s 54 minority tribes are showcased, then walk around the willow-lined banks of the Lake of the Restored Sword. Hop on a cyclo for a one-hour ride around the French inspired Old Quarter with its traditional shops and labyrinthine streets, and this evening attend Hanoi’s famous ‘water puppet’ theatre. (time permitted). Stories of legends, village life and history are told, and the boisterous and festive performances are a must-see in Vietnam.

End of the tour and return to pier.
