| Meet your local guide at your Siem Reap hotel (we suggest an early start at around 5.30am for best viewing) and transfer by private car with driver to Phnom Krom on Tonle Sap, the Great Lake. Here you board a small boat and cross the freshwater lake to Prek Toal, around 1 hour away. Prek Toal is a naturally flooded forest where millions of fish spawn and attract many species of rare birds such as painted and milky storks, greater and lesser adjutants, black-headed ibis, cormorants, herons, whiskered terns, spot-billed pelicans and grey-headed fish eagles, particularly during the dry season (January to May). Birdwatch in the most important breeding ground in South East Asia for globally threatened large waterbirds from your boat through the morning in the company of a local bird specialist. After lunch ashore, visit a nearby floating village to learn more about the local way of life before returning by private car to your hotel in Siem Reap. |
