| Meet your local English-speaking guide and private car and driver at your Sarajevo hotel, and head for a small house in the suburbs around 8 miles from the city centre to visit the famous Sarajevo Tunnel. The Tunnel, around 800 yards long and about 5ft high, was dug by hand in 6 months during the siege of the city in the Bosnian War just a short distance from the front line, in order to get arms and food in and people out. Nowadays, you can only visit a short section of the tunnel but there is also a museum where you can see memorabilia from the time, and a short video of the conflict. Return to the city centre and enjoy lunch at a traditional restaurant before your guided walking tour of the old town. Admire the 16th century Gazi-Huzrevbegova Mosque with its clock tower, minaret and dome, and the Catholic Cathedral, both well restored after damage in the Bosnian War. Explore the narrow streets of the old Turkish quarter where you can still find craftsmen at work in the bazaar, and stalls of sticky oriental sweets. Enjoy the fusion of east and west here in Sarajevo!
