| Meet your English-speaking local guide at your Hanoi hotel and walk (or transfer by car if hotel more than 500m away) to the north bank of the Lake of the Restored Sword to begin your half-day walking tour. First cross the lake on the red-lacquered Bridge of the Rising Sun to visit Ngoc Son Pagoda where monks still pray and work, and from here walk a short distance to the lively Hang Be Market, the only market in Hanoi that sells fruit all year round. Continue to the Historic House on Ma May Street which was built at the end of the 19th century and restored in 1999 to preserve the traditional architecture of Hanoi. Walk through the busy lanes of the Old Quarter, each lane specialising in crafts such as silverwork or lacquerware, to St. Joseph's Cathedral, built by the French in 1887 with an ornate altar and stained glass windows. Your walking tour ends at the lakeside.
