| Pick up from your Shanghai hotel and drive to a region not far from Shanghai, Jinshan, known for its colourful, primitive folk art using bold and often bizarre colours of tempera paint on rice paper. The distinctive paintings are inspired by the day-to-day rural lives of the local people, telling stories of weddings, the seasons, domestic and farmyard animals and household chores, but this agrarian way of life is of course slowly disappering, and provoking debate as to whether the art form should be preserved in its traditional form, or change as the farmers' lives have also changed. See for yourself at the picturesque Farmers' Painting Academy where paintings that some describe as 'Chinese Picassos' are presented.
