| Pick up from your Shanghai hotel and drive to the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum.
Situated in a flamboyant yet elegant mansion in the French Concession district, the Arts and Crafts Museum showcases some of the fine art created in Shanghai over the past century, especially jade, wood, ivory and bamboo carvings, embroidered costumes and wall hangings, and chinaware. Continue to the Teapot museum at Wen Miao Confucius Temple. Restored in 1999 to mark the 2,550-year anniversary of the birth of Confucius, the great scholar-cum-philosopher, this 700-year-old temple dedicated to him features the traditional statues, gateway and pagoda, and when it was built the 65ft high tower offered skyscraping views over Shanghai. One of the halls however has an unusual little museum, a collection of teapots that have been made in the region for centuries, especially the reddish-brown, unglazed, elegant Zhisha teapots that brew a lovely cup of tea!
Open Monday to Saturday, on Sunday mornings there is a famous book market in the temple courtyard.
