Book Thai Chi Experience in Beijing

times available:
am
duration: 1 hour plus transfer

overview: Early morning excursion with private transfers to enjoy an introduction to this ancient martial art in a public class outside the magnificent gold-and-red Temple of Heaven.

details: Pick up from your Beijing hotel at around 6am and drive to the splendid Temple of Heaven to join the many Chinese who gather at dawn at to practice their tai chi exercises en-masse in the open air! Tai Chi translates as 'ultimate supreme boxing' and despite its rather aggressive name, is a soft style of martial arts. The movements consist of a series of slow motion routines designed to induce feelings of mental calm and clarity as the mind focuses on the intricacies of the movements, a kind of moving meditation that relieves stress and thereby promotes physical well-being. Since it does not rely on speed, strength or force, but rather on co-ordination and balance, it is a form of exercise that anyone can do, no matter their age or fitness level, either by concentrating on the martial arts element, or on its meditation aspects. Since this activity was developed in ancient China, many of the names of the movements reflect a different era. Hence you may learn the 'Big Boss Removes Helmet' movement, or 'Lion Opens Mouth' or 'Gorilla Washes Face' positions! Please note the tai chi itself lasts around 1 hour.

inclusions: Local guide, tai chi instructor (public class), private transfers to and from your Beijing hotel.
