Dubrovnik day tour

times available:
am or pm
duration: approx 3 hours

overview: Half-day private sightseeing tour of Dubrovnik's charming old walled quarter, 'the Pearl of the Adriatic'

details: Pick up from your Dubrovnik hotel or cruise ship by your private guide, car and driver, and drive first to the Vidikovac panoramic viewpoint above the city from where you can gaze over the terracotta roofs of the medieval old town, its fortified walls and harbour to understand how it once rivalled the great seafaring city state of Venice for power, wealth and beauty. Drive down again to the Old Town whose fine Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture, spectacular setting and glorious climate inspired Lord Byron to call it 'the Pearl of the Adriatic', and meet your local guide for a 2-hour walking tour. Despite invasions, catastrophic earthquake and the war that damaged one in three buildings, the old town has been painstakingly restored and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll along the elegant main street, Stradun or Placa, lined with shops, and the ancient city walls that are up to 75ft high and 20ft thick. Admire the ornate arches of the Rector's Palace and the Sponza Palace, now a museum and the home of the city archives respectively. See the Franciscan Monastery that houses a priceless library and also the world's oldest pharmacy, and the Titian painting in the Cathedral. Visit St Blaise Church to see its silver statue of Dubrovnik's patron saint holding a model of the city, and pause at the Onofrio fountain. Return private transfer to your Dubrovnik hotel.

inclusions: Private day tour of Dubrovnik with English-speaking local guide, private transfers to and from your Dubrovnik hotel
